Huge Congratulations to all the worthy recipients of awards in the King’s New Year Honours list. The New Year Honours List for 2024 recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK.
The honours system recognises people who have made achievements in public life or committed themselves to serving and helping the UK. As well as many famous faces the King bestows honours on ordinary people who are doing extraordinary things unknown behind the scenes.
After the initial surprise and euphoria of the letter, the content of which has to be sworn to secrecy until the public announcement six weeks later the question becomes “what am I going to wear ?”
The investitures take place in the morning at either Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle or Holyrood Palace. It is a very special occasion requiring a very special outfit. Protocol requires females to wear a hat but not to look like it’s a wedding.
In my mind the most suitable dresses or outfits have clean uncluttered lines are well cut and fit perfectly. Made in quality fabric, classic with a twist and tiemelessly elegant. Elegance never dates and in the conventional setting of a palace at a conventional occasion it makes sense to be respectful. That however doesn’t mean boring ! Colour, cut and design will make you stand out for all the right reasons.
